Micum Drum (ISO 556:2020) | Coke Strength & Abrasion Test Equipment
Product Overview
The Micum Drum (also known as Micum Tumbler) is a laboratory test machine designed to evaluate the mechanical strength of coke with a particle size above 20 mm. By rotating the sample inside a controlled drum, the system simulates the combined effects of impact and abrasion that coke experiences during handling and industrial use, supporting consistent quality control and meaningful comparison between batches.
Manufactured to comply with ISO 556:2020, the equipment is used to assess coke s resistance to degradation and the tendency to generate fines under mechanical stress.
Working Principle :
- During the test, a representative coke sample is loaded into the drum and the unit is run at the specified rotation speed. The operator sets the required number of revolutions, and the machine stops automatically at the preset count. After the run, the product is evaluated by sieve analysis.
- Test results are typically reported as Micum indices (M10/M40) after 100 revolutions. If required, the test can be extended to 500 revolutions to obtain IRSID indices (I10/I40).
Why Micum Testing Matters ?
- Coke s mechanical performance directly affects operational stability in many industrial processes. A Micum test is widely used to evaluate :
- Resistance to breakage and abrasion
- Potential fines generation during handling and process feeding
- Batch-to-batch quality control and supplier comparison
- Process and product consistency in metallurgical applications
Applications
The Micum Drum is commonly used in :
- Mining and metallurgical laboratories
- Coke plants and coke quality control labs
- Steel and metallurgical operations (for incoming coke inspection and batch verification)
- R&D and process optimization studies involving coke degradation behavior
